SymptomSpeedometer was inoperative and Check Engine light was on. Confirmed no speedometer signal with VW scan tool. CauseFound wires at speedometer sensor broken from heat damage. Harness has heat shield (heat resistant hood) which was dislodged. 
RepairVW parts did not have the repair parts in stock. Discovered that the connector for AC pressure sensor is the same connector. Replaced connector at speedo sensor with used component from salvage yard.
