Crankshaft sealing flange (rear main seal), removing and installing (2005 - 2011 TDI)

Abstract: This page outlines crankshaft sealing flange replacement. Flange installation requires a special Volkswagen tool (press tool no. T10134 tool) to properly press on the rear main seal as well as indexing the crankshaft sensor wheel to crankshaft TDC (Top Dead Center).

The crankshaft sealing flange includes the crankshaft rear main PTFE-seal and the crankshaft position sensor wheel as an assembly. Incorrect installation of the flange asssembly will result in a no-start condition, and an ECM error code(s) (improbable engine speed sensor signal). Oil pan removal is also required as part of this repair procedure.

Read the procedure through to determine what parts and supplies are required before beginning the repair.
