Abstract: Crankshaft This page outlines crankshaft sealing flange replacement procedure. Flange installation requires a special Volkswagen tool (press tool no. T10134 tool) to properly index press on the rear main seal as well as indexing the crankshaft sensor wheel to the TDC position of the crankshaftcrankshaft TDC (Top Dead Center).
The crankshaft sealing flange includes the crankshaft rear main PTFE-seal and the crankshaft position sensor wheel as an assembly. The crankshaft positionThe tool is uused to index the crankshaft sensor Incorrect installation of the This resulted flange asssembly will result in a " no-start " condition. VAG-COM error codes indicated an "Improbable Engine Speed sensor signal", so be forewarned. Also you will see in the pictures that I did NOT drop the oil pan at first as some other posts say you can do it that way. This resulted in an oil leak at the bottom of the seal. Believe me, the last thing you want to see after having already yanked the transmission, flywheel and rear main seal TWICE is an oil leak coming from behind the flywheel onto your shop floor. I believe this was caused due to the extremely tight clearances between the bottom of the seal and the lip of the oil pan scraping off all the sealant as the seal was installed. Live and learn.Applies to:
2009 - 2012 Volkswagen Jetta - engine code condition, and an ECM error code(s) (improbable engine speed sensor signal). Oil pan removal is also required as part of this repair procedure.
Read the procedure through to determine what parts and supplies are required before beginning the repair.
