VAG-COM error codes indicated an "Improbable Engine Speed sensor signal", so be forewarned. Also you will see in the pictures that I did NOT drop the oil pan at first as some other posts say you can do it that way. This resulted in an oil leak at the bottom of the seal. Believe me, the last thing you want to see after having already yanked the transmission, flywheel and rear main seal TWICE is an oil leak coming from behind the flywheel onto your shop floor. I believe this was caused due to the extremely tight clearances between the bottom of the seal and the lip of the oil pan scraping off all the sealant as the seal was installed. Live and learn.
