Abstract: This article describes Adjusting Front Wheel Bearing Mercedes-Benz C-Class 1994-2000 (W202) C280

Read Cautions and Warnings before beginning any work on your vehicle.


  • Raise car and support safely.
  • Remove wheels.

Warning

Make sure the car is stable and well supported at all times. Use a professional automotive lift or jack stands designed for the purpose. A floor jack is not adequate support.

* Screw in lug bolt (48a) across from the brake rotor attachment bolt to secure brake rotor.

  • Press brake pads back into brake caliper.
  • Pull off hub cap (9e).
  • Slacken hexagon socket head screw (9i) and lightly tighten clamping nut (9d) whilst rotating the wheel hub. Then turn clamping nut (9d) back until play is noticeable.
  • Attach dial gauge (022) to dial gauge holder (015).
  • Adjust wheel bearing play by turning the clamping nut (arrow) in stages while pushing and pulling the brake disk firmly back and forth.
  • Tighten Allen bolt (9i), check the wheel bearing end float again.
  • Remove dial gauge (022) with the dial gauge holder (015.
  • Reassemble front wheel. Depress brake pedal several times to seat barke pads.
